- Untitled July 18, 2024 10:06 amIn the end, after fighting about it for two days, 7yo realized he wasn't gonna get screentime without practicing his letters, sat down, and completed his tasks in 15 minutes. It's frustrating, did he need to basically ruin two of our days if he could have finished this stuff so quick and be done with it?
- Untitled July 17, 2024 12:12 pmnow he decided to make one demanding hot dogs as well
- Untitled July 17, 2024 12:08 pmmy kid was told he needed to write a certain amount of lines so he could watch TV.instead he now is making protests signs (in two languages) to protest for being able to watch.I mean. Not what I thought would happen, but...
- Untitled July 16, 2024 7:18 amI might be a spoiled westerner, but I abhor ice cold showers. But this week they switched off the warm water for some work on the pipes, so the next time I might have a warm one is next Saturday.
- Untitled July 15, 2024 4:47 pmGlimmermark Session 1Nobody knows where the name Glimmermark comes from. One might assume it was the Glimmerstone Wars, that have ravaged part of the region for centuries, but the name itself seems to have been much older. There have been references about The Glimmer, or journeying "towards the Glimmer" for over a thousand years, in various languages. So the fabled stones seem to have been named after the region and not the other way around.https://gmkeros.wordpress.com/2024/07/15/glimmermark-session-1/

- Untitled July 15, 2024 8:41 amtomorrow hopefully my next Glimmermark game. Last week we canceled due to no players. Summer is one of those times when it's really difficult finding people to play with.#ttrpg #dnd
- Untitled July 14, 2024 4:25 pmUgh. Too much sunshine and social interaction today.I feel fatigued.
- Untitled July 12, 2024 9:21 pmMusings on MuskI am very sorry to say but when #Musk called himself a 'free speech absolutist' he was not lying. It's just he went from the definition of absolutism as a system of governance where a single ruler possesses unrestricted power but can limit everybody else. That's in fact what the shithead wants. It's just, that's not what people understood when he said it.
- Untitled July 12, 2024 4:14 pmfor me as a #German the greatest thing about the #Dutch language is... that their word for "good" sounds the same as the German word for "tasty" "Alles is lekker"
- Untitled July 12, 2024 3:02 pm@jgoerzen right now I am trying to make it possible to reach @kensanata via mail over this. but of course that hits the core issue with this: unlike what we are used to this depends on me knowing exactly (well, at least more exact than the usual way) how the mail needs to be routed.
- Untitled July 12, 2024 3:00 pm@jgoerzen in fact it even provides support to transport batches via external medium (e.g. a thumb drive) from one node to another. this is all fascinatingly low-tech, for global data transmissions that is
- Untitled July 12, 2024 2:57 pmplaying around with #nncp right now (#uucp's fresh-faced little sibling). finally managed to get it set up to hopefully do what it is supposed to do. @jgoerzen's guides on his website helped, but the app's documentation is again spread over multiple man pages that barely seem to be connected to one another. nncp can transport data (e.g. #mail or #usenet, or bigger files) between different nodes that do not need a direct connection, or even be online at the same time.
- Untitled July 12, 2024 12:22 pmFirst dentist visit with the 7yo when he had to have a cavity treated. Luckily in one of his remaining milk teeth. But Jesus christ is that kid in a bad mood now.
- Untitled July 12, 2024 9:55 amworking on my #usenet server again. adding the italian and the polish hierarchies for... reasons. it's kind of pointless considering I am the only actual user on the server, but oh well. I find the whole concept of usenet fascinating, but I doubt there will be much of a resurrection of it, considering how difficult it is to get in and actually get answers
- Untitled July 12, 2024 8:19 amlittle #DoctorWho resume after half the last season: Ncuti Gatwa is a great Doctor. But what the hell happened to Davies' writing? It's like he's imitating himself from 18 years ago.
- Untitled July 11, 2024 2:54 pmYou know, Neuralink sounds like one of those made up names you'd use in a science fiction movie for the bad guy company doing unethical experiments.
- Untitled July 11, 2024 2:45 pmSo I finally got around to watch The Church on Ruby Road, and you know what totally irks me?The professionally produced pop song the antagonists break out into in the middle.I mean, #DoctorWho is silly at the best of times, but seeing humanoids that only croak otherwise break out into clearly pronounced English for their song kinda kills my suspension of disbelief.

[…] Apparently the reason beloved sci-fi writer Terry Pratchett left his German publisher back in the early 90s was because they inserted an ad for Maggi soup into a scene he’d written! (Without his permission, obviously.) According to Pratchett: […]

@gmkeros.wordpress.com I remember seeing this kind of ads in some books I got from the library in the nineties. Can't remember if I saw exactly that famous one in the Pratchett book, but it's possible.

@gmkeros.wordpress.com I've never read anything by Terry Pratchett, though I've been meaning to. This makes me want to read him even more (right after I finish the N.K. Jemisin trilogy I'm listening to).

I wonder if that was the inspiration for Dibbler’s repeated attempts to insert obnoxious adverts into the clicks in Moving Pictures.
