[Tools] Tavern Soundset for Syrinscape

Medieval Tavern

Medieval Tavern

Remember when I wrote about Syrinscape last week? It’s a soundscape program for RPGs that allows to create background noises for your RPG sessions. It already comes with a nice amount of different soundscapes that can be used for different uses, but at least one was a blatant omission: there was no soundset for a tavern or inn. The place where the whole adventure starts in, or at least stops by at one point or another.

But do not fret, I was sick the last week and spent a lot of time playing around with my computer. So here it is: the Tavern soundset.

Download (zip) 42mb (downloads from Dropbox)

Some notes about it:

1. To use it in Syrinscape it has to be unpacked  into the Syrinscape folder. After that it can be chosen as normal from inside the program

2. I originally created this with the Tavern music from Dungeons and Dragons Online in the background. Of course I can’t put that one on here for copyright reasons. If you want to use it then just download the DDO tavern music into the folder, maybe convert it to .ogg, and rename it so the additional files start with “e4”. The program then uses them in the music channel.

3. the soundset does use sounds found on freesound.org and CC-licensed music found on Jamendo.com (specifically from Fatzwerk, ENoz, and The Racoons, check them out!)

WARNING: as of the latest version of Syrinscape this does not seem to work anymore. It might actually work for you with some skilled trickery, but I can’t even get the new version to work, so there is that.

This set is really great! Well done! Just wait for the new version… it’s going to be soooo much easier to make new sets!

I actually have two other sets more or less ready, I just need to check the rights issues in both. I don’t think it’s too hard making them, by now I actually like the simplicity of dropping the files in the folder and renaming them.

Will this soundset work with the OSX version? I don’t see an option for loading custom sets. Thanks.

Frankly I don’t know. It was made for the old version, and there one just dropped soundsets into the folders. I haven’t properly tried the new version yet.

Actually I just tried it out and it doesn’t start anymore (I am on Linux), so I don’t even know if it might work with the new version. Sorry.
That said, I’d be in the market for a soundscape program that runs on Linux systems.

I have tried both the Windows and OSX versions and there don’t seem to be any controls for loading folders or functionality to recognize folders of custom sounds. The creator apparently is working on a tool for just this purpose, so perhaps this is why the current version doesn’t load custom sounds. I agree that a Linux version would be a great addition.

I checked the website and the files that install when I run the installer. It seems that he made the resources that allowed to create unvailable. I guess one could try to get into the file that he used for this, but I don’t see a point for me doing that, considering that I can’t even start the program. He seems to be mostly interested in making money with his creation right now (with the soundsets that were freely available before now all costing money). That’s his right of course, but I was kind of fond of the possibility to create my own soundscapes.

    Hi,
This is Benjamin Loomes the CREATOR! We are indeed working on the editor for Syrinscape. Once it’s done people will be able to build their own sets from scratch.
I think a Linux version is a possibility with Unity. I’ll check it out. How much demand do you think there would be?!? At the moment you can run Syrinscape on PC, MAC, Android Tabs and iOS.
    Does that all make sense?
